Neutron and Gamma Doors

Linac is a device in the oncology department of hospitals, used in cancer treatment, and does this by sending X-rays to the patient. It is an external treatment device that applies a high dose of radioactive radiation to cancerous cells without damaging the surrounding healthy tissues, through images taken from medical imaging devices (MR, CT, etc.).

Radiotherapy is done in two different ways, external (from the outside) and internal (from the inside). Cobalt-60 device or Linac is used in external radiotherapy.

Our doors can operate in a side-sliding state with a PLC controlled gearmotor. It is possible to intervene manually in the power cuts of our doors.

The design of the sliding door should be such that there is minimal space between the door and the wall and sufficient overlap to retain leakage radiations and radiations.

Concrete should be flat and smooth according to C-40 standard, if there is a curve on the wall that the door will contact, it should be corrected.

The door must be at least 13 cm larger than the concrete frame in 3 directions.

Neutron-stopping and pure polyethylene chips containing lead and at least 5-7% weight boron should be used for features that support physical calculations. During the installation phase, these materials should be placed without using a protective container. (Figure 2.)

Primer paint, anti-corrosion paint and special topcoat paint should be used on protective door parts.

Sliding door system must be electric motor chain or belt drive system. Motor-accelerated deceleration and acceleration options and opening and closing speeds should be able to be adjusted independently.

As standard; Electronic safety edge switches, Emergency stop system, Obstacle detection sensor, Torque adjustable clamping system and Jam back release system.

Once the system is installed, testing and leak measurements are necessary to ensure that radiation shielding that will not endanger health conditions has been implemented by the vendor.

Gamma, electron and neutron beams should be less than 1 micro Sv/hr.

OPENING; When the open button is pressed, the door will move to the full opening position,

CLOSING; When this button is pressed, the door will be in the fully closed position.

STOP; When this button is pressed, the door; It will come to a stop position without moving in any direction.

HALF OPENING; As soon as this button is pressed, the door will move to the half open position.

Pressure sensor: It is placed on the front edges of the door to increase safety. When it encounters a pressure of 10 atmospheres, it sends an electronic signal to the door motor and this signal stops the door.

Emergency handle: It is used to manually open the door during any power failure. The manual opening handle is mounted on the door motor.

Since the radiation leakage around the door and its surroundings will be checked by a Physicist every 3 (three) months (taking into account the melting of neutron blocks over time), the door design should be made in such a way that it can be easily removed and installed, allowing the parts to be changed. In order to carry out environmental leak controls, the relevant unit must have a photon and neutron detector.

DOOR CONTENT: Inside out, depending on the power of the device inside; 10 mm Steel + 50 ~ 60 mm Lead Block + 150 mm Boron Paraffin + 25 mm Lead Block + 40 mm Space (to use when necessary) + 4 mm stainless, total door thickness should be approximately = 279 mm.
